How to Order Death Certificates
Death certificates are issued by the county where the death occurred. The process of obtaining required signatures and information for the death certificate takes an average of 3 to 5 business days. Many companies will require a legal copy of the death certificate to transfer property, valuables, or assets into a new person’s name. They will usually keep this copy for their records.
Price: $20.00 per certificate

There are three ways to order death certificates:

1. Order by Phone (Credit card only)
Call the phone number for your counties Public Health/Vital Statistics Office and listen to the prompts to order by phone. (Shipping & handling may apply.)

Snohomish County does not allow orders by phone

2. Order Online (Credit card only)
Visit VitalChek.com. Select “Death Certificate” on the left side of the page, and follow the instructions. (Shipping & handling may apply.)
3. Order in Person (Cash, check, or money order only)
Call the Vital Statistics Office to verify the availability of death certificates prior to your visit. After filling out the order form the average wait is 15 –30 minutes.

You may visit any Washington vital records office in person to place an order, it does not have to be the specific county in which passing occurred. Click here for a listing of county vital records offices if your county is not listed below.
