Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located? Can I come in to make arrangements?
We serve the greater Puget Sound region and SW Washington including Clark, Cowlitz, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pierce, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, and Thurston Counties. Our administrative mailing address and arrangement counselor staff are located in Seattle and Vancouver, respectively. We have partner crematories in Kent, Marysville, and Portland, with transportation centers in these locations as well. Please keep in mind, however, that part of the reason we are able to keep our service prices low is because we do not have the ability to meet families to make arrangements in these locations. Instead, the families we serve complete the arrangement forms online.
Once my loved one is taken into your care, where do they go?
Your loved one is immediately transported to our closest partner cremation facility. Our partner cremation facilities are located in Kent, Marysville, and Portland. Each cremation facility maintains licensed holding facilities which are secure and climate controlled. Your loved one is taken care of there until all required paperwork and documents are completed, at which time we will proceed with cremation.
How long does this process usually take?
We must obtain a signed death certificate signed by the deceased’s attending physician or the medical examiner prior to filing the cremation permit with the State of Washington. While some doctors are good at signing a death certificate immediately, others take several days. On average, the cremated remains should be ready in about 7 to 10 days.
How do I obtain certified copies of the death certificate?
Once the original death certificate is completed and filed with the State of Washington, certified copies may be obtained at the local registrar’s office within the county of death, or directly through the State of Washington. We will notify you by email when we have completed the filing, along with ordering information. Certified copies of death certificates are presently $20.00 per copy.
How am I sure the cremated remains I receive are those of my loved one?
Washington Cremation Alliance has strict controls and monitoring in place to ensure that every person in our care is tracked properly. From the second your loved one is brought into our care, they’re identified with an ankle tag including their name and date of death. Before cremation, an ID number is assigned and stamped on a metal disk – this then accompanies your loved one throughout the cremation process, so we always know who is who.
